i´ll add a couple of facts about finland:

-finland is the home for nokia, marimekko and linux. a finn invented the text message (SMS).

-finns drink alot of coffee. about 4 cups of coffee per person, every day.

-there are more women than men in finland.

-finland has two official languages: finnish and swedish.

-finns drink about 400 000 000 liters of beer every year (about 80 liters per person). though, u have to remember, the booze is actually more popular than the beer..

-tap water in finland is of such high quality it is sold to other countries (such as saudi arabia).

-it rains 121 days of the year in finland.

-the molotov cocktail, a glass bottle containing petrol was named by the finns after former soviet union foreign minister vyacheslav molotov

-finns love their sauna. there is 1 sauna for every 2,5 person. as this is not sweden, the sauna actually is hot.. not warm.. hot! u don´t wear any clothes in the sauna. yes, swimsuits or such are counted as clothes. after u have gotten hot in the sauna, it´s very common that u run outside (still naked) and jump into a lake to cool down. in the winters a hole is often made in the ice. sometimes u just roll around in the snow. beer is a big part of the sauna experience (that usually lasts for many hours).

-since 1982 it´s in the law that u have to keep ur headlights on at all times when driving. the amount of € u are fined for speeding depends on how much u earn. a couple of years ago a man made the papers when he was fined 116 000 € for speeding (he earned more than 7 million €/year).

-finland has many different (and not so serious) world championships. for example: wife carrying, mobile phone throwing, mosquito catching, swamp soccer, boot throwing, air guitar and ofcourse sauna (about a year ago, a russian, who was in the final against a finn, tragically died from overheating/third degree burns. the finn was hospitalized... but he won).

-finns don´t use the 1 and 2 cent €-coins.

-finland always is in the top on various lists when comparing countries. education, wellfare, lowest corruption, most democratic, best country to live in etc. etc. always does well on the top suicides list too...

-finland is the 64th biggest country by area in the world (7th biggest in europe). bigger than united kingdom, romania, italy, the netherlands and greece to name a few. in finland there lives just over 5 million people, meaning every finn gets just under 20 km2 to live on, making finland the most sparsely populated country in the european union.

-there is as many mobile phones in finland as there are finns.

-in finland there actually, for real, is four very different seasons. in the summers the finns get almost 2 months of continous daylight, while in the winter, the sun rarely even is seen. the summers are hot (up to +35ºC) and the winters are cold (down to -35ºC).

-finland is called "the land of a thousand lakes". there is over 180 000 lakes (over 500 square meters) in finland. the biggest one is 1377 km2. finland also have about 180 000 islands. about 10% of finland is covered with water, over 70% is forests.

-finland was one of the last regions in europe to adopt christianity.

-finns in general don´t complain much. that´s how i put up with u guys.
